CREDE

Before taking this course I was fairly unaware if my teaching practices were culturally responsive or not. I am proud to say that by using the assessment checklist I seem to incorporate several of the practices discussed on the video and in the text into my teaching. Standard 1: Joint Productive Activity is an area I find I am weak in. I need to work on matching the needs of time available and allow appropriate time to accomplish my goals. Another standard I find I am weak in is Standard 4: Challenging Activities. I am overly concerned with making sure everyone doesn't make a mistake in front of their peers. As a result of this, I tend to ask "fluffy" questions and avoid challenging them. When providing feedback I also tend to be to soft and not as direct as I should be. These are all areas I intend on improving upon.

Standard 2: Language Development, seems to be one of my strongest areas. I am genuinely interested in my students and their lives. This is something that comes naturally to me. I love having conversations with my students and learning more about them, their families, and culture. Standard 3: Contextualization, ties nicely into standard two. The fact that I am a very social teacher compliments these areas. I could see where a teacher who was shy or and introvert may have a harder time with these two standards. I love inviting people to the classroom and connecting with the community in any way possible. As I mentioned earlier, I am an extremely social person. I tend to thrive on academic conversation. I have always felt my students do as well. In this aspect, Standard Five: Instructional Conversation, was my strongest practice.
